"Rewind To December 2010"

Posted by Andria at 9:33 AM 8 comments
Yes, I know this is so beyond late, but I have a really, really good excuse! Wait.... No I don't. Anyway, down below are pics of SOME of our December activities. Yes, I said some because I didn't include a trip to Sea World, pictures with Santa and a couple other things. I think I'm doing this to make me feel better!

Here we have Disney, our annual Christmas cookie "bake-a-thon" at Grandmas house, Christmas Eve dinner at one of our favorite Thai restaurants and presents on the same day at my dad's. I was thinking about making this a Wordless Wednesday post, but as you can see, I had some explaining to do!

Miranda Kerr's Beautiful Breastfeeding Photo Causing Controversy?!

Posted by Andria at 4:25 PM 9 comments
You all may know Miranda Kerr as just a Victoria's Secret supermodel but as of Jan. 6th 2011, she and actor Orlando Bloom welcomed their 9lb. 12oz. baby boy, Flynn into the world. Miranda had an all natural birth, with Orlando being her ever supportive coach and husband during the labor and delivery. The proud parents decided to post on her Kora Organics site a beautiful photo of Miranda proudly breastfeeding her new baby boy. Orlando himself caught what I believe to be, a lovely moment of bonding and nurturing.

So, here I am thinking to myself, "Wow, how awesome that a huge celebrity mom like her would show the world that she's chosen to breastfeed". In a world where there's clearly no where near the amount of breastfeeding support as there should be, I wish more famous moms out there would help normalize it. I mean, let's face it, celebs definitely get tons of attention so I do think it could help. Apparently there are some not so awesome people out there who don't share my enthusiasm for Miranda's photo. As I looked through the comments on People.com, I came across this comment:

"Nothing wrong with nursing a baby, but it is an odd choice of photos to share with the public".

Odd? A new mother looking completely "love drunk" while cradling her baby to her breast is odd choice of photo to share with the public!? This comment seriously confused me but the next comment made me laugh and bothered me at the same time. Check it out:

"First of all, that is a ridiculous name. Secondly, babies WEREN'T born to be breastfed. They were born to populate the world and to make sure that continued on. Breastfeeding is so old and isn't needed anymore. It is 2011, I am sure that formula is just as good now and isn't going to hurt your babies. It doesn't make them any different whether they are breastfed or bottle fed so why not make life a little easier? Also who the hell breastfeds their child to the age of 3 years old? That is just creepy, kids shouldn't even be on a bottle at age 4. Weirdos"...

Crazy huh? And there's so many other awful comments like that out there on various sites. Now let make a few things clear. No, this is not a "formula feeders are the Devil" post. I myself had some major issues when I tried nursing my daughter so it was very short lived. My daughter did end up being formula fed for the majority of her infancy and yes I will be writing a post about that story someday soon. However, am I a huge advocate of breastfeeding? YES and comments like the ones you just read do irk me to death.

I personally think that the photo is beautiful, natural and tasteful. I mean really, is it THAT bad?! I think that Miranda being as bold as she was to share that photo with the world is a great thing. I also don't think she thought of it as "bold" when she did it. I think she thought of it as just normal. Good for her! It's just sad that so many people out there don't...

"Starting The New Year Inspired"

Posted by Andria at 11:47 PM 14 comments
Yes, I know everyone out in the bloggerverse has written their quintessential "New Year's Resolution" or "New Year's Goals" posts and truth be told I may do just that soon. I tend to get really pensive about things like that and also make goals together with my husband. That way we can keep each other in check but we haven't talked too much in depth about these things yet so that's why that post isn't here yet. In the mean time, I came across this famous saying by Mother Teresa that has completely inspired me and will stay in the back of my mind as I journey through the new year. Though I'm not a hundred percent clear on my goals and resolutions this will definitely be a big part of it:

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, People may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, They may be jealous; Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

Mother Teresa

"The Giveaway Dilemma"

Posted by Andria at 11:58 AM 13 comments
I had a question/concern/thought about something that I’d like to share so if I ramble, I'm sorry. Baby giveaways... That is, baby product giveaways. Since we're currently "trying" I’ve been wanting so badly to enter in a ton of awesome giveaways but I always stop myself.

Here's my side of things; No I don't have a "baby" right now. My little one is already six years old (scary)BUT I know I'll have another one soon enough. That's the goal here so when I see all these cool things I can possibly win for this unseen, yet to be conceived baby, I want to enter! You know, cause I'll eventually need it! This is my thought process.

Here's the flip side and why I can't bring myself to enter; I DON'T HAVE A BABY! What if there's some mom out there struggling financially who has a baby and otherwise couldn't afford some of these amazing products and this would be her chance. Then little old, non-pregnant "selfish" me comes along and I just happen to win. I can't live with knowing that I'm storing something in the back of a closet until my "future baby" decides to come along. Meanwhile some poor mom out there could be getting use out of it for her baby.

Do you get what I'm saying? I mean, yes technically it's a giveaway and I can enter in any one I want to without needing to give an explanation but does that make it right? I guess that's all. I would love your thought on this subject. Thanks guys :)
